DL07 Stereotypes of war - a photographic investigation
»The premise of Liebchen´s brilliant, intriguing book is that the photo-reportage of war is a genre, a set of predictable conventions, »no more authentic than the War Film or the Western«. Thus Liebchen first sets out to explore the nature of photographic seeing by reconstructing (and deconstructing) the reportage clichés that we largely take for granted, composing them as calculatedly as any maker of studio photographic tableaux, though his method is simple re-emphasis. Liebchen´s post- modern reportage tells us to trust nothing – neither tale nor teller, and certainly not the postmodern deconstruction of both.«
